Believe it or not, the Honda Accord has been on sale for forty years. That's nine generations in automotive terms, and since then, the car has continued to cement itself in the hearts and minds of American drivers. This year saw not only a refreshed version, but also its thirtieth win of Car and Driver's 10Best listing for 2016.

This month, which marks the car's 40th birthday, also marks some other achievements. The Accord Hybrid has just gone on sale, offering drivers an eco-conscious driving experience thanks to three innovative driving modes and a new powertrain setup. It also marks the end of the recently-refreshed sedan's first year on sale. Looking to the future, Honda tells us that an all-new Accord will debut for the 2018 model year, with aerodynamic styling reminiscent of the tenth-generation Civic.
