In 2015, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety began a rating system that considered how easy a particular LATCH system was to use. The system looks at how accessible and simple the lower tethers are to reach as well as the force required to secure the seats. The Institute also reveals whether confusing hardware comes into play when installing the LATCH system.
The reality is that the easier a particular LATCH system is to use correctly, the more likely a car seat will be installed properly, and the safer the child will be.
